1979 - 2009 30 Years of Excellence

Just a brief history of our company.

Hendo Contracting was founded in 1979 in Elmont, NY by the present owner, Bob Henderson. Bob actually started his remodeling career at the age of nineteen. 2009 will be his 35th year in the home remodeling industry. After apprenticing for two years, Bob worked as a sub-contractor for several businesses as well as establishing a name for himself. "I enjoyed the business right from the start, working outside appealed to me regardless of the weather, and I enjoyed working with my hands as well as my mind. In the trades you have to have a vision, you must be able to see the finished product in your mind while you are creating it. And, of course, to be self-employed you have to be disciplined and capable of presenting yourself to the customer in a professional manner."

After living and working in Queens and Long Island his entire life, in 1985 Bob and family decided to move to Rockland County. “It was interesting at first. I now had to join the ranks of the commuters, but my eventual goal was to start all over in Rockland County. It was a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, but perseverance usually pays off."

Well, it’s not all about Bob anymore. Hendo Contracting has grown. We have several highly qualified employees, a showroom, state of the art equipment that enables us to perform our work efficiently and safely, and a fleet of young trucks. Although we’ve grown, the same business practices still apply; attention to detail, quality material, respect for your property, fair pricing. And don’t worry; there will always be a Hendo at Hendo Contracting. Bob's two sons have worked at jobsites during their summers for years. The oldest, Phil, who recently graduated from college, has now joined the business full time.

Many things in the industry have changed since that cold day in January, 1974, when Bob first strapped on a tool belt but there is one thing that will never change according to Bob Henderson, "if you're honest and do good work and your prices are fair, most people will appreciate you and you will always be busy."
